Literary discovery tour with enjoyment

Hiking in the Footsteps of Hermann Hesse On this exclusive hike, you can immerse yourself in the literary world of Hermann Hesse and discover the writer’s favorite places. Following in the footsteps of the famous poet, participants will learn fascinating details about Hesse’s formative years in Gaienhofen (1904–1912) and be inspired by the idyllic natural surroundings that inspired Hesse to create his masterpieces. Hermann Hesse left a deep mark on the Höri Peninsula—but the unique landscape of the Höri also left its mark on his work. During his years in Gaienhofen, the writer strove to lead a life in harmony with nature and the rural idyll. The expansive lake landscape and the quiet, secluded atmosphere of the region exerted a magical pull on the neo-Romantic. On this hike, participants will experience firsthand how Hesse’s connection to nature comes to life in his work and gain a poetic insight into the unspoiled beauty of a landscape that has lost none of its impressive power to this day. Along the way, poems and texts from Hesse’s work come to life, offering new perspectives on nature and the poet’s life. The hike begins at 10:15 a.m. at the Hesse Museum in Gaienhofen; after the hike, participants can look forward to a light aperitif—an all-around delightful experience!
