Open Monument Day at the Kastenmangel Steinhude

We demonstrate the operation every half hour from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Coffee and cake are available! The box calender is an industrial facility for smoothing linen. It gives the finished linen a special shine. It was built in a separate building in 1854. It is the largest operational facility of its kind in Europe. In the building, in addition to the calender box, which measures 12 m x 2 m x 2.5 m and is filled with 10 tons of boulders, there is a winding chair, a laying table, a sprayer, and two presses. The building was restored from 1996 to 1999 by Gisela and Wilhelm Bredthauer with the support of the city of Wunstorf, the Wunstorf savings bank, the monument preservation office of Lower Saxony, the Sparkassenstiftung Niedersachsen, and the Klosterkammer Hannover, returning it to its condition from 1930. The box calender is located at the back of the property at Graf-Wilhelm-Straße 10, 31515 Wunstorf-Steinhude.
