Thus, a complicated and thrilling crime story unfolds around a book that is hidden by all means, which could call for nothing less than overcoming fear through laughter and thereby dethroning the rulers. The play touches on politically sensitive topics, offers insights into the conflicts of medieval Catholicism, and thanks to the linguistic power and foresight of Umberto Eco, is perhaps more relevant today than ever. The performances of the play are a collaborative project of Quedlinburg Tourism Marketing GmbH, the Harz Theater, and the Quedlinburg Cathedral Treasure Administration. The monk's drama already captivated numerous guests in 2007 and from 2013 to 2019.
