The Unknown Czech Republic

The neighboring country is just a stone's throw away – and yet, it often feels like it has been far too long since we were last there. Following the motto "The good is so close!" we explore a new section of the Národní park Podyjí each year with national park ranger Veronika Králová.

Starting from Znaim, one of the last natural river landscapes in Central Europe unfolds along the Thaya. The path leads through a wild and romantic valley where the Thaya winds in wide loops through dense floodplain forests, steep rock faces, and sunny dry slopes with open oak forests. At the Sealsfield Stone, we enjoy a spectacular view of the deeply carved river landscape – a panorama that once captivated the writer Charles Sealsfield, also known as Karl Postl.

The return journey via Popice and Konice takes us through a tranquil cultural landscape. Here, meadows, former pastures, and small villages with traditional architecture alternate. Finally, at Kuhberg, we admire the view of Znaim, the "City of Towers," to conclude our trip.
