The 10,000 square meter evangelical cemetery in Hohenhameln has increasingly been transformed into a park-like landscape over the past 10 years. The cemetery is alive. Freed-up areas have become places for biodiversity, nature conservation, and encounters. To provide a visual barrier from the federal road, the existing hedge has been expanded with solitary trees, shrubs, and plants that attract animals such as insects and birds with their scents and the numerous colors of their flowers, fruits, and leaves. Insect-friendly perennial beds, spring bloomers, flowering and fruiting native wild shrubs, dry stone walls, and deadwood spirals contribute to the ecological enhancement of the cemetery. The diversity of the cemetery is also reflected in the various types of graves. Numerous benches and some artworks invite visitors to linger. Many citizens use the cemetery as a local recreation area during their walks.
