Ennio Morricone was an avant-gardist and an Oscar winner, composing music for millions – yet he always remained uncompromisingly true to his own sound language. The program "Viva Ennio Morricone" showcases the full diversity of his work. From iconic Western themes to sensitive ballads and unexpectedly experimental soundscapes, it spans a wide musical arc – dramaturgically well thought out and emotionally captivating. An evening that demonstrates that Morricone's work is much more than nostalgia: it is a fascinating mirror of the 20th century – powerful, poetic, and surprisingly timeless.

The Enthusiasm

His melodies and motifs have etched themselves into the collective subconscious. Morricone – Oscar-awarded, avant-gardist at heart, originally composed experimental music. By mere chance, he became an icon of film music. The fact that I was able to realize my own cello orchestra program together with Alexander Wagendristel seemed impossible for a long time. That we have now succeeded in bringing this program to life after 3 years of work borders on a sensation! And this fascination, this enthusiasm, transfers to the audience. Standing ovations – every single time.

The Fascination

Morricone has always fascinated me – because of his inexhaustible colors of sound, his ability to express emotions in the smallest details. For me as a cellist, his music is an invitation to push boundaries and explore the richness behind these motifs. Together with the arranger Alexander Wagendristel, we created a program that not only reinterprets Morricone's music but also makes new perspectives audible.
