R+J - Bed Timing - DaHeTo Theater

A young couple in love, wrapped in white sheets, belts out peace songs on the guitar and invites the audience into their bedroom. They somewhat resemble John Lennon and Yoko Ono, who held a Bed-In for Peace in Montreal during the Vietnam War as a sign of non-violent protest. Anyone who wanted to negotiate with them about love and peace was welcome to visit. However, instead of being in a hotel room from the 1960s, we find ourselves in a different setting and time: in Verona, after the first secret night of love between Romeo and Juliet. R + J recount from Juliet's bed what has happened so far: At a party, Romeo and Juliet fall hopelessly in love with each other, unaware that they belong to feuding families. Eventually, the political conflict between the Capulets and Montagues escalates, and Romeo unwittingly gets caught in a street brawl and kills Tybalt, Juliet's cousin. In a desperate attempt to end the war and plead for mercy for Romeo, the lovers initiate their own Bed-In protest. Their ambitious attempt to tell a new shared story and to overcome what has happened puts their love to the test. Should they stay or leave together? What if they are not allowed to live their love? Can they change the story of Romeo and Juliet? Are they allowed to stay together? Possible storylines are exchanged, as are the roles: Romeo plays Juliet and vice versa. The two performers take the young and young-at-heart audience with much zest for life into their bed and let them participate. Have they convinced them? Is there an escape from the predetermined story?
