100 Years of Accordion Production at Strasser: History, Tradition, Innovation, and Sound Culture from Seiersberg

Seiersberg near Graz - For a century, Strasser Accordion Production has stood for artisanal precision, a spirit of innovation, and a distinctive sound. The Styrian traditional company is celebrating its 100th anniversary and looks back on an extraordinary company history that continues to thrive successfully in its third generation.

The roots of the company date back to 1926. Founder Anton Strasser, who embarked on a new career path after a war injury, learned the craft of accordion making and established his own workshop in Graz. Despite the challenging times during World War II, the business steadily progressed. After the unexpected death of the founder in 1956, his wife initially took over the management, followed later by his son. Ernst Strasser senior led the company with masterful craftsmanship, entrepreneurial skill, and a passion for innovation into a new phase of growth.

In the 1970s, Ernst Strasser junior completed his training in the family business and made significant contributions to design and technology. With great commitment and courage, he transformed the appearance of the Styrian accordion sustainably. Unconventional colors, materials, and shapes entered the instrument-making process, making the accordion fashionable - even in pop and schlager circles. Technical milestones such as the renewed bass mechanics and the patented SKL mechanics (Strasser Cone Suspension) continue to define the instruments to this day.

Since the year 2000, the accordions have been produced at a modern production site in Seiersberg. Covering around 1,200 square meters, the instruments are manufactured entirely in-house - from the casing to the mechanics, from painting to tuning. About 20 employees combine state-of-the-art technology with traditional craftsmanship and decades of know-how.

Generations of musicians have played their first melodies on Strasser accordions and continue to perform on stages, in ensembles, and at events both domestically and internationally with instruments from Seiersberg. The accordions from Strasser represent an extraordinary variety of sound - from folk music to classical, from traditional music to schlager - thereby carrying the name as a quality brand into the world.

To celebrate the 100th anniversary, Strasser Accordion Production honors its dynamic history while also looking resolutely to the future. The highlight of the celebrations will be the grand Strasser Gala on November 7, 2026, at the Schwarzl-Halle in Premstätten. Accompanying this event, two specially designed anniversary accordions with exclusive special features will be released to musically accompany the anniversary year. Company head Ernst Strasser junior and his team remain true to their commitment: innovation, precision, and passion for an instrument that connects people - yesterday, today, and in the future.
