"Back to the Roots" - Graz Saxophone Quartet at the Festsaal of the Music School Frohnleiten
On Friday, May 8, 2026, the Graz Saxophone Quartet will perform at the Festsaal of the Music School Frohnleiten. Under the atmospheric motto "Back to the Roots," the ensemble invites you to a special concert evening, perfectly timed for the upcoming Mother's Day.
The Graz Saxophone Quartet is considered the oldest saxophone quartet in Austria. Its roots date back to 1980 when Prof. Oto Vrhovnik founded a saxophone quartet at the Landeskonservatorium Graz. After his appointment to Vienna, the ensemble was successfully continued by his student Dieter Pätzold and developed into an internationally recognized master ensemble.
In Frohnleiten, the quartet will perform in the following lineup: Severin Neubauer (soprano saxophone), Dieter Pätzold (alto saxophone), Lena Gollob (tenor saxophone), and Julia Rakos (baritone saxophone).
The evening will receive a special emotional and musical touch through the participation of Mag. Walter Latzko, who was recently a teacher of clarinet and saxophone at the Music School Frohnleiten. Latzko was the tenor saxophonist of the Graz Saxophone Quartet from 1988 to 1996 and significantly contributed to the artistic profile and the masterful rise of the ensemble during that time. His return to the stage with the quartet is entirely in line with the concert motto "Back to the Roots."
The Graz Saxophone Quartet looks back on an extensive international concert activity. In addition to numerous performances in Austria, concert tours have taken the ensemble to Germany, Slovenia, Slovakia, Lithuania, Albania, Turkey, as well as to Jordan, Egypt, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Oman, Ethiopia, Pakistan, China, Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines, Peru, Cuba, and Chile.
With "Back to the Roots," the audience can expect a musically demanding and emotionally charged concert evening - a special sound experience and a stylish start to the Mother's Day weekend.
