"Ouro Negro" translates to "Black Gold" in English.

"Ouro Negro" stands for Black Gold and refers to the infinitely rich treasure of Afro-Brazilian music. The four-member band "Ouro Negro" from Vienna enchants with the unique combination of tenor saxophone and voice. The singer and guitarist Yta Moreno from Rio and the Viennese saxophonist Christian Gonsior have shared a musical friendship since the mid-1990s. They dive into the fascination of rhythms and sounds, taking the listener on an exotic, magical journey. Their current CD "Ouro Negro" is the result of years of fruitful collaboration and musical creativity between the two in Vienna.

Moreno composes funky pieces as well as choros inspired by experiences in nature, using popular Brazilian rhythms such as Bossa Nova, Partido Alto, Baiao, or captivating sambas as a foundation. He integrates the melancholic mood of lost loves, the melancholy, and the Brazilian feeling of saudade. Gonsior's compositions additionally reflect North American jazz as well as West African and Afro-Cuban rhythms. Together with bassist Herfried Knapp and drummer Bernhard Koeper, Ouro Negro also presents compelling original compositions and selected songs from the Brazilian music universe!
