TOURDATA

Herrengasse 1, 8230 Hartberg

The 95-year-old Paul Lendvai is an Austrian, Hungarian, Jew, and European: What defines his identity? Born in Budapest, he narrowly survived the Holocaust. In 1953, he was imprisoned as a "Trotskyist" and subsequently faced a professional ban; in 1957, he managed to escape to Austria. Here, he found a new home and became an internationally active journalist.

In his new book, he intertwines the biographical with the analytical, local with European politics. Despite all his criticism of Viktor Orbán, he feels closely connected to Hungary. And since anti-Semitism has been on the rise worldwide, he feels more than ever a part of the Jewish community of fate. His descriptions make it clear: identity consists of many facets, which together form the essence of a person. Admission €14. Tickets are available at the Hartberg City Library and at the Morawa bookstore.
