HOME GAME – The 1st Burgenland Football Film Festival

Just before the football world converges in the USA, Canada, and Mexico for the World Cup, Mattersburg itself becomes the center of a special football fever: In celebration of the 50th anniversary of the cultural center, this year marks the launch of the first Burgenland Football Film Festival "Heimspiel" – a cinematic kickoff full of heart, passion, and team spirit.

Football is much more than just a sport: It excites generations, connects people across backgrounds and languages, and creates community where differences would otherwise dominate. In the stadium as well as on the screen, it becomes evident how much football brings fairness, respect, and solidarity to life.

This is exactly what "Heimspiel" celebrates. The festival presents a carefully curated selection of Austrian and international films, documentaries, and short works that showcase football from surprising and touching perspectives – as a cultural phenomenon, as a mirror of societal developments, as a stage for great emotions, or as a place for small everyday wonders.

A colorful supporting program with panel discussions, school events, music, DJs, and many other highlights rounds off the festival and makes "Heimspiel" an experience for the whole family – and for everyone who loves both culture and football.
