"My Soul Listens in Seeing | Handel's German Arias"

These are works of timeless beauty: The Nine German Arias HWV 202-210 by Georg Friedrich Handel. They were composed between 1724 and 1727, during a time when Handel had already made a name for himself as an opera composer and had been living in London for 16 years. The texts, penned by the Hamburg poet Barthold Heinrich Brockes, are set to music in a rather simple manner, in contrast to his opulent operas and pompous occasional compositions. He scores them with "only" one voice, an obligato accompanying instrument, and basso continuo, creating wonderfully intimate and highly sensitive arias.
