Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's "Die Entführung aus dem Serail," premiered in 1782 under the composer's direction in Vienna, is presented in this concert in a version he himself created for eight wind instruments and double bass. Charming melodies that reveal their full magic, especially in this arrangement. Actor Stefan Suske narrates the adventurous story of a love in times of fanaticism. In a time when the Ottoman attacks on Vienna were still fresh in memory, the piece must have appeared very provocative. Even today, Mozart's punchline, depicting a Muslim ruler as more humane than his Christian counterpart, is astonishing. Mozart's "Die Entführung aus dem Serail" remains a highly political and moral piece about the tensions between the East and the West.
