The mountains in the paintings of Thomas Bredenfeld do not depict real landscapes. They are not invented but arise from painterly processes, built up from brushstrokes, abstract patterns, textures, and splashes of color. From a distance, they appear realistic. However, upon closer inspection, a vibrant, colorful weave of pure painting is revealed. For the credibility of the topography and light moods in his high mountain landscapes, Thomas Bredenfeld draws on several decades of experience as a mountaineer in the Austrian and Swiss Alps.
