The old walls of our Schattenburg not only served as a center for defense, justice, and administration, but also for courtly festivities and tournaments. Under Vogt Friedrich VII. of Toggenburg, there was a lavish court life at Schattenburg. Well-known tournaments were held at the foot of the castle hill, where music was an essential part. It also played a significant role in the worship of women, the concept of courtly love.
