I fear that it is something very terrible:" On this day, Bonhoeffer is arrested in Berlin and taken to the military prison in Berlin Tegel. In 2025, we will commemorate the 80th anniversary of Dietrich Bonhoeffer's death, who was executed on April 9, 1945, in the Flossenbürg concentration camp. His fiancée, Maria von Wedemeyer, was 18 when she fell in love with the significantly older theologian and asserts herself as a quite independent and self-sufficient woman alongside the already well-known man. After his death, she left Germany and lived in America until the end of her life. Her great love accompanied her throughout her life. Teatro Caprile brings the relationship between Maria Wedemeyer and Dietrich Bonhoeffer to the stage in a dramatic reading. It portrays a very young, self-confident woman and a already famous pastor who is actively involved in the resistance against the Nazis. After a few brief meetings, during which Maria chooses Bonhoeffer and takes the initiative to become engaged, he is imprisoned and hanged in April 1945. Maria only learns of his death in June.
