Based on an outstanding collection of Classical Modernism from Austria – consisting of representative exhibits by artists such as Klimt, Schiele, Kokoschka, Kubin, Carl Moll, Egger-Lienz, Eisenschitz et al. – the Schütz Art Museum promotes a discursive dialogue with contemporary art. It is also worth mentioning the nearly unique Artists-In-Residence program in Europe, combined with humanitarian engagement on the African continent, as well as the fact that the building itself – both a landmark and a solitary structure – represents the world's first zero-energy museum, embodying a promise for the future in line with the concept of sustainability. "Art is the mediator of the unspeakable."
Johann Wolfgang von Goethe (1749 -1832)
Living for Art
"We want to make art tangible, comprehensible – sensual, stimulating, inspiring," is the commitment of the collector couple Irene & Josef Schütz. Over 25 years ago, they took the step to pursue their passion and turn their personal enthusiasm into their profession. They hung up their previous careers to dedicate their lives to art, with verve, empathy, and a high standard of quality.

In this comprehensive collection, presented to the public for the first time, it becomes clear what an egalitarian momentum can arise through openness and dialogue.
"Out of the ivory tower, into the world!" is the motto of the collector couple, who also provide contemporary artists with the opportunity for free creative expression, and offer you, esteemed audience, rare insights into the creative processes. In addition to the presentation of exquisite art, a place of exchange and democratic interaction is created. Thus, it is essential to inhale the vibrant art, participate in a dialogue, view both the exhibits at the heart of the collection and the constantly evolving discursive perspectives, or simply to linger, reflect, and enjoy...
