The Salzburg Police Band was founded in 1937 by Chief Officer Rudolf Topf from the singing and music association of the Federal Security Guard and Criminal Officers of Salzburg, which was established in 1907. In 1938, after the annexation to Germany, it was incorporated into the German police. After World War II (on May 4, 1945), the Salzburg Police Band was reestablished. By Christmas, it performed with 14 musicians as a salon string orchestra at the Christmas celebration in the police barracks. In the following years, the Police Band developed into one of the best wind orchestras in the city and the state of Salzburg.

Countless concerts were held in the Mirabell Garden, various live radio broadcasts, and some concert tours were undertaken. Currently, the Salzburg Police Band has 52 members (38 executive and administrative staff, 4 retirees, 10 external guest musicians). It is led by Chief Inspector Hans Wolfgruber, MA, head of the Public Relations Office at the LPD, Music Master Friedrich Fischer, and the chairman of the support association, Wilhelm Rettenbacher. Since August 2022, the musical direction has been held by Christian Berchthaler. In 2022, the Police Band was active 42 times for various occasions, including internal celebrations and representative concerts throughout the state.
