“Schönberg meets Benatzky”? Two musicians from Old Austria, both forced into exile, had little contact. Yet the master of the “Second Viennese School” wrote cabaret songs, while the creator of popular operettas crafted chansons in the free spirit of the 1920s. Experience “Pierrot lunaire,” a wonderfully sound-intensive exceptional piece of speaking to music, and charming chansons performed by young musicians under the direction of “Mattsee’s GMD” Kai Röhrig, along with texts by Tucholsky and others.
