"Bone Dry" - The Graves of the European Envoys

The Baroque was an era of lavish representation. This was even reflected in the design of tomb monuments: the wealthy could afford stone artworks for eternity. For centuries, imperial diets took place in Regensburg, with the Perpetual Diet occurring from 1663 to 1803. Delegates with their families came to Regensburg from all over Europe. Those who died here usually had to be buried on-site, strictly separated by confessions, of course. The Protestant representatives and their families were buried in the churchyard around the Trinity Church. Thus, the cemetery for diplomats was created, the only preserved diplomats' cemetery. It showcases the relationship between art and death, as well as the tomb monuments of the Catholic delegates who found their final resting place in the Imperial Abbey of St. Emmeram.
