Marianne Mendt, Austria's top all-round entertainer, likes to keep things modest when it comes to superlatives about herself. "I'm basically just a musician," she usually says, adding, "a passionate musician and singer." And she has been doing that at the highest artistic level for decades.
Mendt, as she is affectionately and respectfully called by her fellow countrymen, literally ushered in the dialect wave in Austria in the early 1970s with a hit, "Glock'n." She played numerous musical roles, expressed her passion for jazz and swing, passionately supported the jazz youth in the country, and served as the director of her own jazz festival for many years. Aside from her numerous appearances in theater, film, and television productions, as well as her role as the tobacconist Gitti Schimek in the legendary "Kaisermühlen-Blues," she always emphasizes that "first and foremost, it's about music."
Around the 80s: Hits, nostalgic "Momendte," and equally musical guests
The celebration takes place on stage. The concert program will feature changing musical line-ups. "Everything from small to large will be included," she says, adding a note: "Right up to the big band." There will be standards as well as the big hits. This includes nostalgic "Momendte," as well as guests, although the artist remains tight-lipped about that: "Everything is still in such an early stage, but of course, it will traverse my musical life, including lifelong companions." A colorful array of memories and autobiographical elements will be the common thread. As Mendt puts it: "I've been a musician since I was twelve. So there will be a lot to tell." And that is something to look forward to!
