Evening Concert // Reijseger Fraanje Sylla

Reijseger Fraanje Sylla is a trio that has held a distinct position in the international music scene for many years. Cellist Ernst Reijseger, pianist Harmen Fraanje, and Senegalese singer and percussionist Mola Sylla combine elements from jazz, African singing traditions, and classical music into an open, genre-crossing form. The music of the trio emerges from the interplay of different musical roles. Fraanje's improvisational piano playing, Reijseger's precise and melodic lines, and Sylla's singing and percussion intertwine to create a sound language that relies less on explanation and more on immediate impact. The pieces move between calm, contemplative passages and more intense moments, without a fixed formal framework.

Two albums have already been released under the label Winter & Winter. In addition, the trio has collaborated multiple times with director Werner Herzog, composing music for several of his films. This collaboration has also shaped the perception of the group beyond the concert context. Reijseger Fraanje Sylla sees itself as part of a larger artistic network. Alongside projects with musicians from jazz and improvised music, they have created works with representatives of classical and baroque music, as well as with artists from various traditional music cultures. Collaborations with other art forms such as literature, dance, theater, visual arts, and film are also an integral part of their work.
