One of the most famous and oldest choirs in the world is performing in Vorau: The Vienna Boys' Choir has a long tradition. Since the 13th century, boys have been singing in the Vienna Burgkapelle. In 1498, Maximilian I moved his court along with the chapel to Vienna. Musicians such as Mozart, Salieri, and Bruckner worked at the Viennese court, while Joseph Haydn, Michael Haydn, and Franz Schubert sang as boys in the court music chapel.
Today, there are around 90 Vienna Boys' Choir members, divided into four choirs. Together, the choirs give nearly 300 concerts a year to almost half a million spectators worldwide. Since 1924, they have performed nearly 29,000 concerts on more than 1,000 tours in 100 countries. Erasmus Baumgartner is the Artistic Director of the entire Augarten campus, and the president of the association is Erich Arthold.
Under the direction of the Italian musician, pianist, and conductor Niccolò Morello, who has been the conductor of the Schubert Choir of the Vienna Boys' Choir since March 2025, the boys' choir will perform at the Vorau Abbey Church with an impressive program. Under the title "Made in Austria," well-known works by Johann Strauss II will be featured, including the waltz "On the Beautiful Blue Danube" and the "Emperor Waltz," the song "When You Wish upon a Star" from the Walt Disney film "Pinocchio," and "Vienna" by Billy Joel.
