The music festival FREMDE ERDE, organized by VIVA LA CLASSICA! in cooperation with the Vienna Wiesenthal Institute for Holocaust Studies (VWI), Neubau, the Jewish Community of Vienna (IKG.Kultur), PEN Austria, and the Exilarte Center of the mdw – University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, aims to bring public attention to composers who fell victim to the Nazi regime and to revive their forgotten works.
As part of the festival, works by the following composers will be performed: Akos Banlaky, Hanns Eisler, Maria Hofer, Friedrich Hollaender, Joseph Horovitz, Vítĕzslava Kaprálová, Józef Koffler, Erich Wolfgang Korngold, Alexander Kukelka, Szymon Laks, Hermann Leopoldi, Karol Rathaus, Władysław Szpilman, Alexandre Tansman, Mieczysław Wajnberg, Ilse Weber, Egon Joseph Wellesz, Kurt Weill, Hans Winterberg, Erich Zeisl, Alexander Zemlinsky, among others.
Performers include the Warsaw Radio Symphony Orchestra / Conductor: Michał Nesterowicz / Piano: Marek Bracha, the String Quartet of the ORF RSO – Radio Symphony Orchestra Vienna, Momentum Vocal Music / Director: Simon Erasimus, singers: Josipa Bainac, Maria Harpner, Günter Haumer, Chimène Smith, Julitta Dominika Walder, actors/narrators: Ruth Cerha, Katharina Kurschat, Sissi Reich, and musicians: David Hausknecht, Mateusz Kasprzak-Łabudziński, Bela Koreny, Piotr Lato, Dominika Peszko, Hemma Tuppy.
