W. A. Mozart: Requiem

W. A. Mozart's Requiem is considered one of the finest and most moving works that classical music has to offer. The myths surrounding Mozart's last composition contribute to the incredible allure of this masterpiece. The Requiem embodies the strong emotions that people experience in the face of death: fear, anger, despair, sadness, hope, and comfort.

Mozart's connection to St. Stephen's Cathedral is well-known worldwide. He married his wife Constanze in the cathedral, and two of their children were baptized there. After his death, he was laid out in the cathedral for farewell before being transferred to the St. Marx Cemetery in Vienna. Mozart's name appears in both the death protocol and the so-called burial fee book of the cathedral, and his marriage to Constanze Weber is also recorded.

The Vienna Cathedral Orchestra and the St. Stephen's Vocal Ensemble, under the direction of Cathedral Music Director Markus Landerer, will perform W. A. Mozart's Requiem in honor of All Saints' Day at St. Stephen's Cathedral in Vienna.
