"Soulful Advent"
Jocelyn B. Smith & Band
The internationally renowned opera and jazz singer Jocelyn B. Smith, born in 1960 in Queens, New York, will host a soulful Advent evening on December 9, 2026, in the Mozart Hall of the Vienna Concert House with her five-member band. Throughout her decades-long career, Jocelyn has collaborated with many internationally acclaimed artists from various genres, including Udo Jürgens, Lenny White, Alphaville, Falco, Sir Simon Rattle, and the Berlin Philharmonic, Till Brönner, Thomas Quasthoff, Mikis Theodorakis, among others. She has released over 20 albums and performed more than 3,000 concerts.
In 2001, she touched 200,000 people with her rendition of "Amazing Grace" at the Brandenburg Gate during a memorial service for the victims of the September 11 attacks in New York, USA. As a socially engaged activist living in Berlin, she raises her voice against poverty and social exclusion, offers singing and mentoring workshops for choirs at the Berlin Citizen and Neighborhood Center, and was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit by German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier for her social commitment. Subsequently, she also received the Order of Merit of the State of Berlin from Mayor Michael Müller.
In 2021, she led workshops for Berlin schools based on her concept "Songs of Substance," funded by the Federal Agency for Civic Education. In 2023, she received the Beethoven Prize for Human Rights, Poverty Alleviation, and Diversity, and in 2025, she will be named the Ambassador of the Voice as "Instrument of the Year."
With Jocelyn's current single "And it's Love," she dreams of enlightening our children through the power of music and guiding them toward a better future. "Our many voices have the transformative power to inspire and create a harmonious world!"
