Linz ... in progress

Today, both work and the city face significant challenges on their own. To foster the soil for urbanity through diversity, inclusion, and dynamically stable structures, the interplay between work and the city must be rethought repeatedly. In this context, city residents play a crucial role, as they are the ones who, through the exchange of local knowledge and creativity in everyday practices, continuously design new forms of collaboration. The city can be understood as that place where this is made possible for people. Urban development that is perceived as inviting, inclusive, and interdisciplinary offers society various tools to productively accompany the social, ecological, and economic transformation of the city. Necessary for this are "democratic and public spaces," an attitude of "curare et reparare," as well as the appreciation of biodiversity and diverse ecologies. These form the foundation for the future viability of our cities.

"Linz Central" serves as an excellent local case study as a district in motion. Located "above" the railway, it lies in the geographical center of the Linz urban region, yet is perceived as peripheral by the city's residents. It is a truly working district that has already undergone significant transformation recently and is set to face further transformation processes in the coming years. Nine "test sites" in the neighborhood spatially represent this structural change and allow for concrete discussions about aspects of the future of work and re-mixing in urban space. The "working" exhibition presents various tools of urban planning and architecture, which are casually showcased through the activities of students on-site to an interested urban population, thereby conveying the rich perspectives and spatial connections in dialogue.
