Description
A Viennese café in 1938: Amidst the aroma of coffee, everyday stories, and piano sounds, a family tries to maintain their place in a world that is becoming unbalanced.
In his new musical play A SMALL CAFÉ SOMEWHERE, Peter Lund tells the moving story of a café owner and his family - a family trying to preserve their everyday happiness while a dark time begins around them.
The music comes from Hermann Leopoldi, the legendary Viennese cabaret artist, pianist, and composer, whose songs continue to embody the heart and humor of Vienna. With chansons like "How Beautiful is Such a Carousel," "In a Small Café in Hernals," or "We're Doing Well," Leopoldi wrote timeless melodies that tell of joy in life, wit, and human warmth - often providing comfort precisely where the world falls apart.
In the musical arrangements by Kai Tietje, Leopoldi's immortal melodies resonate anew - lovingly careful yet contemporary - and combine with the libretto by Peter Lund to create a music theater evening that connects the past and present: touching, vibrant, and profoundly human.
A SMALL CAFÉ SOMEWHERE - a new music theater piece about what remains when everything else begins to falter: love, memory, and music.
