Grasshopper search in the Burgenland Alps

Burgenland is famous for its Pannonian species that thrive in warmth and dryness, and in Southern Burgenland, it also has a share of the sub-Mediterranean Illyricum. The "alpine" side of this low-lying federal state is hardly in focus, yet the extensive forest areas around the highest elevation - the Geschriebenstein at 884 m above sea level - provide a habitat for a rather exotic grasshopper world by Burgenland standards. We hope to confirm, in addition to the Alpine Mountain Grasshopper(!), the last Burgenland occurrence of the Colored Grasshopper. Forest edges and moist meadow valleys will be our preferred terrain for grasshopper searching. With the bat detector, we also hope to find the discreetly living, high-frequency singing Sword and Plump Grasshoppers. Excursion leaders: DI Thomas Zuna-Kratky and Johanna Almasy MSc.
Participation fee: Free. The excursion is funded as part of the project "Colorful Burgenland - Nature Conservation Rally."
Participant group: Enjoyment excursion for everyone from beginners to professionals; educators and nature communicators are especially welcome.
