From village to royal seat – a tour of Tettnang

The tour leads from today’s town center, Bärenplatz, to the New Palace. At 15 stops along the way, tour guides explain Tettnang’s journey from a small village to a royal seat with a magnificent palace. The first thing visitors to Tettnang notice is the New Palace. This imposing four-winged complex dominates the townscape. But how did this structure come to be in such a small town? The monument can only be understood as the culmination of centuries of urban development within a European context. The tour explains the key stages in the town’s development, discusses the obligations of the Counts of Montfort, and illustrates the living conditions, daily life, and economic activities of officials and citizens. It clarifies why the historic highways lie outside the formerly fortified town, why Tettnang boasts three castles, and how the Counts of Montfort earned their money. The tour includes visits to the Gatehouse, the Holy Cross Chapel (interior tour), the schoolhouse, the market, and the counts’ residences. Participation in the public guided tour on fixed dates is possible without prior registration. Visitors should meet at the designated time at the Torschloss, Montfortstraße 41, in Tettnang. Guided tours can also be booked at any time for a date of your choice. The cost is 100 euros per group (up to 15 people). The price for each additional person is 6.60 euros (maximum group size 30 people).
