What started a few years ago as a naive idea in a home studio has long since achieved cult status. If one were to place the sound in the first bars in America of the 1970s, the Viennese flair immediately throws a wrench in the works.

We are talking about Ignaz Tschinön, the alter ego of multi-instrumentalist and songwriter Matthias Nowak.

While individual releases – in unmistakable do-it-yourself style – have already found resonance in the Vienna scene, he has now brought in reinforcements to appropriately take the endeavor to the stage. Inspired by the patina of legendary bands from the golden age of funk, Tschinön presents an eight-member ensemble that leaves nothing to be desired. The entourage, consisting of Carla Kaltenböck (vocals), Igor Rapo (vocals), Max Wintersberger (trumpet), Stefan Eitzenberger (saxophone), Peter Legat (guitar), Moritz Holy (bass), and – give the drummer some – Max Legat (drums), amplifies the sound emerging from the small chamber with power and sensitivity for the big stage. So much so that Ignaz (Rhodes) “doesn’t have to do much anymore.”

Thematically, the search for the timeless in the present is up for discussion, always viewed through the humorous lens of Viennese culture. Of course.
