Cake and Fountain Festival

Historical City Festival of the Haller Salt Boilers **The traditional Cake and Fountain Festival will take place in Schwäbisch Hall from May 22–25, 2026!** The Cake and Fountain Festival is the largest and most traditional festival in Schwäbisch Hall and honors the historic salt spring that continues to shape the city to this day. The Cake Festival dates back to a legend from the year 1316: After the salt workers extinguished a fire at the town mill and rescued the miller’s family, the miller gave them a large cake weighing 90 pounds every year as a token of gratitude. During the traditional fountain procession, the fountains of the Old Town are visited, reminding visitors of the importance of water and brine. Both traditions are now united in the Cake and Fountain Festival, which is celebrated with historical events such as a salt-boiling demonstration, coin minting, and a reenactment of the mill fire. Medieval customs, historical crafts, impressive Sieders’ dances, and spectacular gunpowder smoke and cannon salutes will take place over the Pentecost weekend from May 22 to 25, 2026. The festival will be held on the market square, at Grasbödele, and on the Unterwöhrd in Schwäbisch Hall and is organized by the Alt Hall e.V. association in cooperation with the city of Schwäbisch Hall.
