Billie Holiday continues to set standards with her music to this day. The same goes for Michael Gibbs, who, as a composer of modern big band literature, has enjoyed an internationally shining career alongside Pat Metheny, Gary Burton, and many others. Already in the 1960s, as a student at the Berklee College of Music, Gibbs was fascinated by Lady Day (the nickname of Billie Holiday) and wrote several arrangements for the songs she made famous during her tragically short life. Together with Michael Gibbs, Ed Puddick will accompany the orchestra throughout the concert and will conduct original compositions by Michael Gibbs in the second set.
