The exhibition "Anton Kitzmüller – A Retrospective" at the Schlossgalerie Steyr is the first extensive solo exhibition of Anton Kitzmüller in Austria since 2019 and provides an overview of his work from 2019 to 2026 with numerous, partly large-format pieces. Anton Kitzmüller, born in 1966 in Linz, initially studied at the Art University Linz and transferred in 1986 to the University of Applied Arts Vienna to the master class in painting under Wolfgang Hutter. Since completing his diploma, he has lived and worked as a freelance painter in St. Florian, Linz, and Vienna. In the 2000s, his works were represented by several galleries and exhibited in various countries across Europe. They are part of established collections, such as the Rudolf Leopold Collection and the Leonie von Rüxleben Collection at Kunsthalle St. Annen Lübeck. Numerous reports on his exhibitions have appeared in daily newspapers and art magazines, including Die Presse, Salzburger Nachrichten, Süddeutsche Zeitung, Vernissage, and Weltkunst. A comprehensive film portrait of Anton Kitzmüller was created on behalf of the Cologne-based Edition Beckmann.
In his new works, Anton Kitzmüller connects the inner world with the outer world and combines a factual, multi-layered painting style with an emphasized application of color. A captivating dialogue about the relationship between art and reality is opened, presenting differentiated and surprising perspectives. Through his specific light modulations, a central element in the artist's work, gentle, fluid transitions between reality and vision emerge.
On the occasion of Anton Kitzmüller's 60th birthday, a solo exhibition will be held simultaneously at the Szaal Gallery in Vienna alongside the exhibition at the Schlossgalerie Steyr. Accompanying the exhibitions, the illustrated volumes "Anton Kitzmüller – The Seascapes," "Anton Kitzmüller – The Landscapes," and "Anton Kitzmüller – Art and Reality" will be published by Shaker Verlag.
