Christian Gerhaher & Gerold Huber

With his unmistakable vocal timbre, his interpretations that are both moving and richly nuanced, and his crystal-clear diction, baritone Christian Gerhaher belongs to the great song singers of our time. Together with pianist Gerold Huber, with whom he has collaborated since his student days, he returns to the Brucknerhaus for an evening dedicated solely to Schumann. The focus will be on three groups of works from the so-called "Liederjahr" of 1840, the year of the marriage between Robert Schumann and Clara Wieck. Additionally, two later gems will be featured in the program, including the darkly melancholic "Lenau Cycle," which addresses themes such as transience and world-weariness.
