THE HOLIDAY HOUSE

In 1964, architect Carl Albrich has a glass holiday home built for himself and his family. Over 60 years later, it goes up in flames. In the meantime, the house is inhabited by several generations who come together at crucial moments in their lives. They talk, argue, and love in a place that suggests a transparency that does not prevail amidst the family and relationship constellations. Decades of child abuse within the family, which has been kept silent for years, slowly makes its way to the suppressed surface.

Simon Stone stages a grand family epic: he processes themes and motifs from the Norwegian playwright Henrik Ibsen and has developed a new version of his play IBSEN HUIS for the BURG, which he premiered in Amsterdam in 2017.
