The New German Wave – later abbreviated to NDW – received a boost in 1982 from Nena, which this hyperactive music genre needed to finally secure the top spots in the Central European charts. Artists like Spider Murphy Gang, Joachim Witt, Trio, Hubert Kah, Geier Sturzflug, Ideal, Minisex, Markus, and Peter Schilling suddenly captured the attention of the masses with songs that just one, two, or three years prior would have had no chance of airplay. The time was ripe for an entry in music history: NDW.
