Walter Vopava is one of the most important contemporary abstract artists from Austria.
His unmistakably purist painting is characterized by an exploration of light and color. Black, dark areas dominate the composition of the images. These are contrasted with bright, vibrant colors—often in shades of green and violet—and sometimes with glaring white, creating poetic depths with sharp transitions between light and dark and between foreground and background.
