Lecture: Geology on Both Sides of the Border

As part of the event series, the Zukunftsraum Thayaland invites you to an exciting lecture on the geological development of the border region between Jemnice and Waidhofen an der Thaya. The two geologists, Mag. Andreas Thinschmidt (Austria) and Pavla Hršelová (Czech Republic), will jointly provide insights into the earth's history of this unique landscape.

The approximately one-hour lecture will be presented by a Czech and an Austrian expert, combining two perspectives on the geological development of the region.

In the first part, Czech geologist Pavla Hršelová will introduce the geological structure of the area around Jemnice. She will provide a comprehensible overview of the main rocks, minerals, and the geological development of the region. The content is intentionally prepared to be easily understandable for visitors without any geological background.

In the second part, Austrian geologist Mag. Andreas Thinschmidt will examine the geological situation south of the state border, particularly in the area of the district of Waidhofen an der Thaya. He will demonstrate how geological structures continue across the border and what characteristics shape the landscape on the Austrian side.

As part of the INTERREG project "Sala Cultura CzonA," numerous events and exhibitions will take place in 2026, focusing on art, natural resources, history, and traditions of the border region between Jemnice (CZ) and Thayaland.
