Summer Theater Orth on the Danube

On June 19, the theater group Orth an der Donau will premiere Jura Soyfer's classic "The Apocalypse" in the atmospheric tournament courtyard of Schloss Orth. What happens when a giant comet hurtles directly towards Earth? In Jura Soyfer's dystopia written in 1937, humanity does not respond with unity, but with the usual chaos: diplomats get entangled in debates, the economy senses a great business opportunity in the apocalypse, and the "little people" try to find their place between hope and resignation.

Timeless humor in a historical setting
Despite the serious theme, the play is a clever, humorous satire that feels more relevant today than ever. Is it comforting to recognize many things from today's world in it, or is it frightening? That is something everyone must decide for themselves!

Jura Soyfer was born on December 8, 1912, in Kharkiv (now a contested area in Ukraine) and came to Vienna as a refugee with his family in 1921, where he attended school and became an author. He was arrested by the Nazis in 1938 and died a year later in the Buchenwald concentration camp from typhus.

Weatherproof cultural enjoyment: The group is prepared for all eventualities. In nice weather, the audience enjoys the open-air atmosphere in the tournament courtyard; should the weather not cooperate, the performance will simply move to the event hall of the castle.
