Another Kind of Blue. Lecture on Textile Recycling by Tim van der Loo

Textile designer Tim van der Loo, originally from the Netherlands and now living in Berlin, explores alternative approaches to the circular economy and production processes in the fashion industry with "New Blue." His focus is on a very popular textile, denim, which is produced in large quantities as cut-offs or as waste textiles in the jeans industry. His work demonstrates that denim can be part of a continuous material cycle. He has developed a process that shreds waste textiles into fiber material. Using a special nonwoven technology and digitally supported industrial embroidery, the denim remnants are then combined into a stable fabric. The patterns for the garments are created in parallel, optimizing the entire production process and minimizing waste.

Tim van der Loo has received multiple awards for his work and will conduct a hands-on workshop on this process during the summer symposium in Haslach. In his lecture, he will share his career path, his research process, and his work at the intersection of craftsmanship and industry, mass production, and sustainability.
