Excursion to Mühlviertel textile companies

The Mühlviertel is a region with a rich textile tradition. Since the early Middle Ages, flax has been cultivated here and processed into linen fabrics. Although structural change in the 20th century also affected this region, some textile companies have survived to this day, catering to specific niches with a combination of innovation and sustainability, and covering many exciting facets of modern textile production through their diversity.

On this excursion day, we will visit four different companies and gain insight into various production methods: we will visit the Vieböck linen weaving mill, the Schernberger rope factory, the Haberkorn fire hose producer, and a craft business that works with leftover materials, among other things. Our focus will be on the waste materials generated during the production process, such as weaving edges, cutting scraps, yarn remnants, and so on. These products, which would otherwise often end up in the trash, will be available to us as valuable resources in the following days during the courses.

All the companies are located within a maximum radius of 45 km from Haslach. We will be traveling by bus and will learn interesting facts about the history of Mühlviertel's textile culture and other companies that cannot be visited on this day. We will stop for lunch at a country inn along the way. We will return to Haslach in the late afternoon with many impressions and plenty of inspiring material—just in time for the opening of the summer symposium and the exhibitions!
