"KellerSchichten" translates to "Basement Layers" in English.

What can a cellar tell, besides stories of supplies, bicycles, and forgotten items of previous tenants? What personal stories are hidden within the walls? With the cellar at Aichberghof, artists and residents of the community of Leobendorf are utilizing a historic vacant property for a collaborative art project. A theatrical parcours performance is being developed and presented on-site. The audience is invited to wander through the layers and the stories. In different corners, viewers will encounter a collage-like scene of theater, performative installation, dance, sound, and language. “KellerSchichten” makes historical and personal stories tangible for both the project participants and the audience.

Since the 1990s, the term parcours performance has emerged in connection with immersive productions. As a site-specific art form that implies the movement of the audience, it focuses on the space itself as well as the narratives that lie beneath the surface. Memories that have settled into walls and stones—whether documented, silenced, forgotten, or imagined—return. One hears, sees, feels, and discovers the place anew. The space thus becomes not only a setting but also a co-narrator, artistically reviving the former vacancy. The heart of the project is the participatory development with local residents as well as the multidisciplinary staging as a theatrical and performative parcours. In the end, a shared exploration emerges: the cellar, the below, the transcendent is brought to light together.
