The word "darkness" has so many meanings: night, evil, the color black, a nightmare, a fertile emptiness or mystical silence, the unconscious, the universe, the absence of light, a storm, a cave, a secret, the deepest point in the sea, magic, the feminine, ghosts, or a hidden world.
Kir Lamont's large-format color images and light objects engage with twilight as a transitional space where the atmosphere of the world becomes particularly palpable. Darkness does not diminish the experience; rather, it deepens it. It alters the way we move in space and directs attention to forms of perception that are often overlooked during the day.
In Natalia Weiss's prints and books, a multitude of protagonists frolic, with animals—preferably birds, rats, insects, and small reptiles—repeatedly appearing alongside utility knives, scissors, mobile phones, and other everyday items to create moods and tell stories through their arrangements. Natalia Weiss is a master of the line, or rather, of the countless lines, as she enjoys using the technique of hatching to model her figures with closely spaced lines. (Quote: Edith Payer)
Heidi Zednik's work also references current world events that will soon be viewed as historical: she returns to the turbulent, dark, reflective surface of Lake Traun, where so many historical events have already been mirrored. Her concentrated installations, photographs, ink drawings, and artifacts from nature trace these reflections. Structures, colors, and lines poetically convey the minimal, the quiet, the essential.
The artistic works of the three artists, who will also be present at the opening, encompass the media of printmaking, book art, installation, light objects, photography, painting, and drawing, ranging from large, space-structuring works to small, intimate pieces.
