About the play:
Master butcher Külz is feeling blue. One day, while walking from the slaughterhouse to the butcher shop, he hears a blackbird singing. Without hesitation, he heads to the train station and takes the first long-distance train. He thinks to himself that there must be more to life than just working from dawn till dusk. Külz ends up in Copenhagen, where, while enjoying a plate of sausages at the posh Hotel D’Angleterre, he meets the charming Miss Trübner. She is in trouble: she needs to deliver a small artwork—a miniature—to Brussels and believes she is already in the sights of a gang of art thieves. Külz is a man of honor: he naturally offers to accompany her for protection. Thus begins an adventurous journey by train, ship, and rail, filled with many mix-ups. Not only are the two being discreetly followed by a gang of thieves, but a Mr. Struve is also conspicuously trailing Miss Trübner. The miniature changes hands so often that by the end, no one knows where it is. Only Külz strikes at the right moment.
