Kino Katsdorf, April 9, 7 PM: Film "No Gold for Kalsaka," film discussion with Johannes Knierzinger (University of Vienna) and Othmar Weber (VEZ)
The Welthaus team of the Diocese of Linz will show the award-winning documentary "No Gold for Kalsaka" on Thursday, April 9 at 7 PM at Kino Katsdorf.
Following the film, there will be a discussion with Johannes Knierzinger (University of Vienna) and Othmar Weber (VEZ - Association for Development Cooperation).
About the film NO GOLD FOR KALSAKA: A British mining company operates a gold mine in Kalsaka in northern Burkina Faso. Jobs, tax revenues, and improvements in education and healthcare are promised. What remains after the mine's closure a few years later are contaminated wells, a cratered landscape, and despair. Of the 18 tons of gold extracted here, nothing has reached the local population. However, the people are resisting the destruction of their livelihoods and have gained confidence following the political upheavals in the country. NO GOLD FOR KALSAKA is an award-winning documentary that, thanks to the special artistic techniques of the Burkinabé director, guarantees a unique documentary experience (Source: EZEF/abridged and edited by the Welthaus team).
