ABOUT THE CONCERT A unique event - Martin Ivanov performs all 19 Rhapsodies by Franz Liszt in one evening - a cycle that can only be experienced at the Liszt Festival Raiding. Franz Liszt was described by his contemporary Heinrich Heine as "not a quiet pianist for calm citizens and cozy sleepyheads." The "Hungarian Rhapsodies" are among the most distinctive and virtuosic works in his piano repertoire, and no other composition has shaped the image of Liszt more than the "Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2," his most popular piano piece alongside the "Liebestraum." The rhapsodies combine powerful melodies, improvisational passages, and dynamic contrasts. Each develops its own dramaturgy - from passionate intensity to poetic reflection to tension-filled drama, starting slowly ("Lassan") and surely building up to the virtuosic, fast section ("Friska"). Here, the pianist must demonstrate what he can do - from double octaves in triple forte to cadences in breathtaking presto. Pianist Martin Ivanov, born in Bulgaria, can do this - and impresses with breathtaking virtuosity, paired with musical depth and an extraordinary range of expression.
