ABOUT THE CONCERT
Two exceptional artists shape this matinee: Lidia Baich and Donka Angatscheva present a program that makes the dialogue between violin and piano, as well as the diversity and depth of their interplay, tangible. At the center is Franz Liszt's rarely heard “Grand Duo,” a work that leads both instruments into an intense musical exchange and meets the highest virtuoso demands. Grieg, Schubert, and Chopin each provide significant and independent contributions. Liszt was closely familiar with their compositions, promoted them, interpreted them, and engaged deeply with their musical thoughts. This program makes the artistic relationships of these composers audible while contrasting their different expressive worlds. Lidia Baich and Donka Angatscheva are distinguished by their sensitive interplay and intense musical creativity – a finely balanced conversation between two outstanding musicians.
