Samson Tradition as a Symbol of Regional Awareness
The Samson is one of those regional cultural assets that are considered particularly identity-forming for the Salzburg Lungau and its population. Weighing between approximately 65 and 105 kg, the Samson rests on the shoulders of a single bearer. This individual carries it alone while dancing or marching to the music of the local brass band; otherwise, it is supported by four "helpers." In front of the houses of dignitaries and patrons, as well as for the entertainment of interested visitors, the Samson awaits with honor dances.
